WHICH ONE ARE YOU?
October 1, 2025
It’s football season and that time of the year causes me to think of who is “in the game” and who is “watching the game” a tad more than I do the rest of the year. Are you a “fan” or “commentator” or a “player” or “coach?” Your actions and comments determine which one you are. I have covered this topic countless times over the years but it is so important to me that I keep coming back to it. Fans and commentators are the people sitting in the stands hollering all sorts of advice about what the people on the field or court, the ones in the game, should be doing. It takes nothing to be a fan or commentator other than voicing an opinion. Players or coaches are the people who are willing make a personal commitment to do all sorts of things that fans and commentators are not willing to do or more frankly, not capable of doing. Life is full of fans, commentators, players and coaches and we see them every day in all sorts of situations. Players and coaches get up early, work hard and stay late. Players and coaches critique themselves and solicit input from others as they focus on becoming better. Players and coaches study their sport and use and validate facts. Players and coaches are constantly seeking wisdom and measurement even when it really hurts!
This concept has sustained King Aerospace. We must have people who are players or coaches on the field with the team. They have earned a right to be on the team and make measurable individual contributions so that as a team we make a positive difference. We are thankful for players and coaches who are engaged. We are appreciative for our players and coaches who are coaching those around them to help strengthen their teammates. The world is full of fans and commentators who don’t influence the outcome of anything. They have lots and lots of opinions but they don’t impact the scoreboard at all. Unfortunately for me, whenever anyone talks to me, in my crazy mind, I ask myself “Do they sound like a fan or commentator or do they sound like a player or coach?” Try out my thinking and listen to those you encounter throughout your day and ask yourself, “Are the words that I am hearing babble and a waste of energy and time or is there real meaning in what I just heard?” I will be the first to admit that I am too focused on results. I also have to confess that I remind myself that everyone is a child of God and I must respect what they have to say, regardless of how I feel about how they deliver their words. What’s my point? Don’t confuse activity with results in all aspects of your life. Life for me, as I strive to be a good player or coach, takes lots of inspiration combined with lots of perspiration and God’s favor every day!
NOTE: THE RED COMMENTATOR HAT IS A TRAINING PROP AS TO WHAT IS TO BE AVOIDED!
