GOTTA LAUGH?…… MAYBE!!!

October 1, 2026

I am generally pretty serious but at times I can be pretty goofy.  Some people even say that my sense of humor is a little warped.  I would like to share with you a couple of my warped stories.

Mexican Restaurant Story:

Recently I walked into my favorite Dallas Mexican food restaurant where I know most of the staff.  I feel like I am with family when I am there.  When I walked into the small restaurant alone, the manager was excited to see me and asked in a loud voice “Where’s Barbara?” Most of the customers sitting in the restaurant looked up to see why he was so excited to see me and couldn’t help but overhear our conversation.  I told him that “She’s home getting ready for a colonoscopy in the morning.  It’s like having a bad burrito.” When this man heard the word “colonoscopy” his face lit up like a wild pin ball machine or winning casino slot machine!  He said in a very loud voice that all the patrons could easily hear “I had one of those and it was so bad.  They found some things and took them off and then I went home.  That night, it was a mess, a real mess and I had to go back to the hospital to get things fixed and it made a crazy mess.” When our conversation started, I was standing with the manager and three waiters and busboys.  By the time the manager finished his story, there only the two of us.  The customers didn’t look nearly as interested in our conversation as they had been in the beginning!

Hill Country Furniture Story:

I recently walked in the Texas Hill Country Furniture store near Lipan, Texas, which has its own sawmill and builds custom furniture.  I have dealt with the owners for over twenty years.  The two ladies who work the front of the store wanted to help me put some small wood stools that I purchased in my truck.  We were in a drought but when I was at the store it was raining like it was monsoon season.  The two old country girls each put a grocery bag on their heads and offered me one to keep my head dry but I declined.  I stopped frozen in my tracks and admired the two and told them they looked like real Texas Hill Country dates: double baggers!  They laughed until they had tears in their eyes.  Thankfully I got them to take a selfie since I can’t take photos on my J-B Weld customized flip phone.  This encounter was a game changer in my long and trying day; thanks be to God for the smiles.

Memorable Trip To the Holy Land Story:

My final goofy story is several years old but to me it supports my claim of being a crazy half Puerto Rican!  Several years ago Barbara and I went to Israel with a church group.  It was wonderful to walk the streets of so many places that we had read or heard about.  One night we stayed at a Catholic convent.  My goofy self kicked in and I am one of the few men you will ever meet that will proudly proclaim that he “got lucky” in a convent!  If this is wrong, I ask for forgiveness!  My wife does not like this great moment in our marriage of almost forty years, but I only share it amongst friends!

Believe me, I don’t take myself serious unless it has to do with service to God, Country and Family.  By the way, “Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!” Buy me a Puerto Rican rum and diet coke with two limes and I’ll freely share lots of even goofier stories and you just might find some a little funny!
