GOT IT TOGETHER?

April 1, 2025

I don’t know about you, but at times I have met people or even looked at them from afar and thought “Boy do they have it together.”  Then when you peel the onion, you realize that things don’t look the same up close as they do from afar.  I try to share positive thoughts in most things that I write and strive to be truthful in all aspects of my commitment to serve God, Country and Family but I don’t always share the painful parts of life.  You can probably imagine what it might be like to be the sole owner of a small and privately owned defense contractor business.  We compete with major defense contractors and publicly traded aviation firms who don’t have the same mission.  The successes that we enjoy are purely blessings from my boss up above.

Recently I read the daily devotional set out below and it really touched my heart.  I hope that you might find these words as meaningful as I did.

“Pride is one of the most tragic and potentially disastrous states to be in.  Subtle, hidden beneath the surface, pride wraps itself in perfect little packets.  Let’s talk about the devious ways in which pride sneaks in.

“When we desire to please the Lord, we don’t intentionally embrace pride.  The enemy’s trap sounds something like this: ‘Do right, act right, and don’t let people know that you have problems.’ What an exhausting way to live.  The truth is, when we always appear to have it all together, we’re setting ourselves up for a great fall.  How will we get help when we need it if we’re always pretending things are perfect?  How will others feel comfortable enough to trust us if they think we never fail?  It’s time to embrace humility and vulnerability.  Time to face the fear of what others think.  To truly have no desire than to please God.” *

May we not forget, Isaiah 26:5:

“He knocks down the high and might, and the lofty city he humbles and levels down to the dust.”

Take it from someone whose days are long and pain is often great. I sometimes say, “I’m the failure who is too dumb and too stubborn to quit, but by the grace of God I keep trying.” This life is tough and just when you think you’ve got it made, you might want to think again as you humbly savor the moment and count your blessings.  Know that in the pain of life, there is always a blessing if we look hard enough.  I love the saying, “no pain, no gain” and at 72, I keep pushing with God’s favor.
